A Case of You: The Music of Joni MitchellDeborah Brennan
Direct from a sell out season at the 2016 Adelaide Fringe Festival and Adelaide Cabaret Fringe Festival, ‘A Case Of You: The Music of Joni Mitchell’ is a fresh and contemporary interpretation of the songs that made Joni an icon of the 70s, aiming to introduce her music to a new generation of listeners whilst still retaining the essence of Joni’s distinct sound.
Created by vocalist/pianist Deborah Brennan, the show pays homage to one of the most inspiring singer songwriters of the Woodstock generation. With songs such as Big Yellow Taxi, Both Sides Now and A Case of You, Joni’s raw, honest and emotive lyrics truly reach right to the heart of the listener.
The success of the show lies in the commentary that ties the songs together. It’s not just about “old songs in new lungs”. The show is an intimate portrayal of Joni’s biggest works, sprinkled with stories along the way where Brennan reveals the influence certain songs have had in her own life. The narrative helps make the show more accessible to everyone – both old fans and new listeners alike, presenting the works on a more personal level and connecting the listener to the music.
Brennan is accompanied by some of Adelaide’s most talented musicians, guitarist Liam Garcia-Hardman and percussionist Chris Neale. Together, the trio creates a beautifully intimate and authentic sound.
